Filming The Clouds video

With up and coming film director George Moore Chadwick on location for the Clouds video. He also happens to be my nephew and Godson (clue in the name). He filmed this on his beautiful Bolex 16mm camera with Kodak film stock.

Guitar Story #2

I bought this Epiphone Sheraton in 1985 for £250.00 and The House Of Love was born! It was the first semi-acoustic I’d ever owned and it was love at first sight. I couldn’t afford a Gibson 335 so this was the cheaper alternative but I actually prefer it. (I subsequently owned two 335’s and sold them both). It’s much lighter in weight so good for live work. It was used on all the records especially the early ones and Terry used it on the first version of Shine On. This is the one of two guitars I’d never part with. When recording, ninety percent of the time I will use this.  It’s great for a slightly overdriven clean sound . It’s particularly featured on two tracks on the new album  called Sweet Water and State Of Grace. I had it restored three years ago and it cost the same £250.00 as the original price!

Guitar Story #1

This is the first of my guitar stories. This is my oldest guitar bought in 1981 and is a Matrix Ovation copy with an electric pickup. The reason I bought this guitar was that PR Guru Alan Edwards of Posh and Becks, Bowie, Rolling Stones etc fame came to see my group at the time Reverb and Barbed and told me to ditch my electric guitar and use an acoustic live for image reasons... I promptly sold my Yamaha SG and bought this for £300.00 which was a lots of money then! It was used on all the early Creation recordings and the lovely tone can be particularly heard on Loneliness Is A Gun. Also check out Plastic where Andrea used it to play a beautiful arpeggio. Terry loves this guitar and played it on many recordings too. The marks on the voice box are where I pulled off gaffa tape which was
holding on the plastic cover around the centre. One day I will get it completely renovated and restored to its former glory.

Chelsea

I am a devout Chelsea fan and have been since I was seven years old when my elder brother Chris ordered me to be Chelsea, opposite his Man United and my eldest brother’s Liverpool. It’s been a stormy time over the decades but I have never lost the faith. With Super Frankie Lampard in charge, we are looking like a top team again.

My youngest daughter Ruby was brainwashed at a very young age but is still as mad about the team as I am!

World Tour 1989/1990 Poster

Just found this in a box, 141 gigs in a year! In between recording sessions, making videos, promotional tours etc. I hardly saw my family and when I got home once from the USA my little girl had forgotten who I was.

On the main UK tour which included the Kilburn National and Royal Albert Hall we played 14 nights on the trot. Just looking at this poster makes me feel exhausted, as we were then most of the time.

The day after Treforest on the 2nd December 1989 was the fateful moment when Terry and the band irreconcilably parted company on the Severn bridge. It was madness to go on at that point, but the whole tour was booked and the pressure was high to get another guitarist and carry on.

My guitars

These are most of my guitars. I sold a few over the years but these go way back.

Over time I am going to tell you a story about one of them.
